Varrio 408 Mexican food in NYC

Posted on

Varrio 408 is the best Mexican food I’ve had so far in New York City, and that’s saying something. Is it a coincidence that 408 just so happens to be the area code of San Jose?

The line for food is slow though. It is not fast like Chipotle, or any other burrito chain. However, I can assure you that the wait is well worth it for what you get!

I only had a steak taco when I was there, and that was filling. The steak was cooked a little bit charred, but not burnt totally, so it had great flavor. I was in love with the fact that they had guacamole, salsa, and sour cream set out, so you can put your own toppings on as you like. They were not stingy at all with them like most Mexican places are. They had spicy, green peppers. You could even add more if you wanted, but I thought they had enough flavor as was already on my taco. Just as spicy as I’d like my tacos.

Their decorations were pretty cool to look at too, as I waited for my taco…which unfortunately also took a long time. But once again, this was one of those rare incidences where good things come to those who wait!

I cannot afford to go to Mexico right now, but it is nice to know that I have finally found some decent Mexican food at Varrio 408 in New York City!
